Does a Virginia Gold apple tree self pollinate?

We are planting an orchard with about 25 Virginia Gold apples, and a handful of other varieties and fruits. Will the Va Golds self pollinate or should we group them with the other fruits and/or get other pollinators?
Any info will help (hopefully).

The “Virginia Gold” variety does not self pollinate. You will get a crop of apples if this is the only variety you plant, but the production will be low. To achieve the best production and quantity of fruit from your small orchard, I would advise you to companion plant, with a different variety of apple for cross pollination, one which blooms at the same time as the “gold” does. All apple trees need some form of cross pollination for maximum production and the “gold” is no different. The way the bee populations are dwindling the last few years, you need all the help you can get. Plant a different variety of apple tree every 6 or 7 trees down the row. Since you are only gonna plant 25 trees, you will probably only need about 3 pollinator varieties. Iam providing a very good link with pollinating information from Colorado State Univ. Another alternative would be to contact a beekeeper in your area and they will gladly place a few hives in your small plot, usually free of charge. They are always looking for places to put there hives. Who knows, you may swing a deal with him for a little free honey for the home cooked biscuits..
